With the growing trend of remote work, a well-designed study not only boosts productivity but also protects physical and mental health. Scandinavian style, with its simplicity, functionality, and closeness to nature, is the ideal choice for this space.
## Desk and Chair - Ergonomics is Priority Number One
An oak or pine desk with a simple design, slim legs, or an adjustable standing desk. The desk should be at least 120cm wide for a computer, books, and personal items. The work chair needs lumbar support and height adjustability. In Scandinavian style, chairs typically have a slim design, mesh or fabric upholstery, prioritizing breathability.
## Lighting - The Productivity Factor
Maximize natural light. Place the desk parallel to the window (not facing or backing it) to avoid glare. White sheer linen curtains help diffuse soft light. In the evening, use a desk lamp with an articulating arm and 4000K (neutral) LED bulb to reduce eye strain. A floor lamp in the corner creates warm indirect lighting.
## Smart Storage - Keep the Desk Tidy
Rule: 80% of items stored away, 20% on the desk. Scandinavian-style filing cabinets typically have flat doors in white or gray, blending into the wall. Open shelving holds only favorite books and a few small decorative items like plants or family photos. Cable management should be hidden in cable ducts or under the desk.
## Inspiration from Nature
Plants on the desk are not just decorative but also help reduce stress. Small succulents, mini money trees, or small snake plants in white ceramic pots are popular choices. A Scandinavian landscape painting or botanical print on the wall provides inspiration. On the desk, only keep a small photo frame, a beautiful notebook, and a quality pen — enough to show personality.
