Comparing the differences between French style in Vietnam and Europe, from colors to decorative details.

1 / 4
French Colonial (Indochine) style in Vietnam is a unique combination of French architectural elegance and Indochinese cultural identity. However, it differs significantly from typical French style in Europe.
## Colors: From Cool to Warm
While European French interiors typically use cool neutral tones like gray, pure white combined with navy blue or black accents, French Vietnamese style favors warm tones like cream, beige, light turquoise, and earth yellow.
## Materials: Climate Adaptation
French architecture in Europe often uses natural stone, heavy oak, and fireplaces. In Vietnam, Indochine designs have adapted by using moisture-resistant teak wood, white marble, and cement tiles to create a cool feeling.
## Decorative Details
Arched doorways, wrought iron railings, and crystal chandeliers are common elements. However, in Vietnam, we often see combinations with rattan weaving, Vietnamese silk paintings, and Bat Trang ceramics — features that cannot be found in original French design.
## Open Spaces
French-style townhouses in Vietnam usually have a courtyard or small balcony — elements rarely seen in typical French architecture but very suitable for the tropical climate.
