Common mistakes when decorating homes in Vietnam and how to fix them.

10 Common Decorating Mistakes in Vietnam - 1
1 / 4

After years of observation and consultation, we notice some home decorating mistakes repeating in many Vietnamese families. Here are the 10 most common mistakes and how to fix them.

## 1. Lighting Too Cool or Too Yellow

Many families use 6500K LED lights (cool white) throughout the house, creating a hospital-like feeling. Solution: Use 3000K (warm yellow) for bedrooms and 4000K (neutral) for living rooms.

## 2. Curtains Too Short

Curtains only cover to the window, exposing the frame. Solution: Hang curtains 15-20cm higher than the window and let them touch the floor to create a higher ceiling feeling.

## 3. Too Many Small Decorative Items

Bookshelves packed with small souvenirs create a cluttered feeling. Solution: Apply the 'less is more' rule — only keep items that truly have meaning.

## 4. Rug Too Small

The rug only fits under the coffee table, not reaching the sofa legs. Solution: The rug must be large enough for the front legs of the sofa/chairs to rest on it.

## 5. All Furniture from the Same Set

Buying a complete set of sofa, table, and cabinet from one store creates a showroom feeling. Solution: Mix items from various sources to create unique personality.

## 6. Ignoring Natural Light

Hanging thick black curtains or placing tall cabinets blocking windows. Solution: Make the most of natural light, use sheer curtains or bamboo blinds.

## 7. No Color Accents

The entire house in one white or beige color is boring. Solution: Choose an accent color (turquoise, earth orange, or green) for cushions, paintings, or an accent chair.

## 8. Furniture Not Matching Proportions

Sofa too large for a small living room or dining table too small for a spacious area. Solution: Measure carefully before buying, draw a layout diagram.

## 9. Ignoring Wall Space

Empty walls create an unwelcoming feeling. Solution: Hang 1-2 large paintings or a set of small paintings (gallery wall).

## 10. No Plants

Space lacks vitality. Solution: Just 2-3 easy-to-care-for plants are enough to change the atmosphere.
